Goodbye, February!

JohZant Owner posted Mar 5, 18

First month of the network is down, and it has been a pretty exciting time. Here is what we got up to this past week.

  1. Vanilla made..... more vanilla

We had the AFK kicker and the "Border Rule" brought into question by some members. The concerns that were raised were 1. The AFK kicker was not actually a part of the Vanilla game, and 2. The Vanilla game allows people to build on top of the nether and other places like that.

After giving it some thought, the Border rule has been revoked, for the Vanilla server only, and the AFK Kicker has been removed since it is not in normal Vanilla.

  2. Skyblock Voting Crate

Skyblock recieved a bit of love with a new Vote Crate. Instead of money being given for voting, vote crate keys will be given out. It has some nice items in there to help get you along with your island. The crate can be found at the Skyblock spawn (/spawn).

  3. Factions Boost

In anticipation for the reset of Factions, we increased the envoys so that only 1 person would need to be on for them to drop, and the envoys would drop 10 crates. Included in this boost, keys were set to get dropped every 15 minutes, so that players could achieve maximum rewards and mcmmo got a 10x boost so that people could finish off their mcmmo ranks.

  4. Parkour

Parkour was released this past friday. We have had some really good times set so far and some super entertaining courses to test yourselves on. Go and have a try of them. See if you can get your name into the top 5.

  5. Changes to the way we punish

We have added in some new ways to discipline people. Bans will be used more frugally and we will start to use different forms of punishments from now on. Because of this change, we believe it is unfair to keep players punished so we have lifted all current non-hack related bans. For those that wish to continue their offensive behaviour, we will not even second guess other forms of punishment.

Bugs and Exploits

  1. Poor Connections

Over the last few days, since last Thursday, some of you may have noticed a drop in connectivity. A lot of players, including myself, were getting kicked a lot. After monitoring the situation, we found that there were massive lag spikes, not on the minecraft servers, but on the network itself. We have addressed these issues with the network with our server provider and the lag spikes have disappeared. If you are having troubles with your connection and you do not believe that it is on your end, raise a ticket so that we can check for you.

Before raising a ticket make sure that you troubleshoot your end first to eliminate the issue.

With Parkour being released, we only have one more server to go before we will view our network as complete; The Mob Arena. Or, as we are calling it now, The Arena.

Originally, we were going to have KitPVP on one of the servers. This changed as we realised that there were only a couple of players that were excited for KitPVP. While excitement from players excites me a lot, having only a few KitPVP players makes for a very boring fight. So we decided to change the roadmap to include a Mob Arena server instead of the KitPVP.

With so much potential with the Mob Arena, we really thought that it would be an awesome server... and it will be. But now, we will be combining the server to house PVE Arenas as well as PVP arenas. The Arena server will be the ultimate place to fight what ever you want. Whether it be unlimited waves of mobs, elite players or monster bosses, the Arena will have something for you to kill.

Factions Reset

The Factions Server reset was announced this week and we are SUPER excited. Most of my time was spent on cleaning up the Factions server and getting it ready for everyone to start fresh. We don't want to ruin too many suprises or tell you what we have in store for the future, but here is some info on what is to come:

  • Brand New Spawn ~ more functional and central
  • "The Pit" ~ Challange players and duel them to the death - Winner Takes All!
  • Smaller border ~ This was originally thought to be at about 10k, but we might even have it start out smaller.
  • Economy balancing ~ Get the old prices out of your head. The new economy will be balanced by YOU.
  • New Shop ~ Only the essentials. This will be brought out at a later date. You will have to survive and work for some things yourself. Spawners will be coming to the shop after it is released.
  • Auction House ~ This will be your main resource to buy and sell items.
  • Worldly Envoys ~ No more will Envoys be landing in a warzone and you forced to risk yourself to get one. Something much worse will happen. Envoys will drop in greater numbers, but at random locations in the world. (anywhere within 1000 blocks from spawn).
  • Everything is subject to change ~ While all of this is good info and has been well thought out, anything could change if it will suit the server better.

Here is the timeline for launch.

5:30pm - 7.30pm AEST Wednesday, 7th of March, 2018: Bomb Spawn to the ground. Everyone is welcome to come and watch. TNT cannons will be positioned around spawn and they will be loaded with 5 dispensers full of tnt. BYO Marshmellows.

7:30pm - 9:30pm AEST Wednesday, 7th of March, 2018: Server gets taken offline for the wipe.

5:00pm - 10:00pm AEST Thursday, 8th of March, 2018: Server gets brought back online sometime during these hours. Players will have access to the new spawn and the countdown to launch begins.

6:00pm - 7:00pm AEST Friday, 9th of March, 3018: Border opens and the Factions server is ready to be explored. I have said that this will most likely be at 7pm AEST, but if we get a really good turn out for it, I'll open the border up a bit earlier.

I look forward to see as many of you there as possible. It should be a fun weekend of exploring the new world.

It is a long one, so if you got to here and you are still willing to play on the Archetype Network.... you are the real MVP. If you have any questions regarding anything that has been stated, comment here or hit me up on Discord.

See you in-game,

Short report this week. We mainly spent the week and weekend fixing small things to make the server look and run better, and I actually got to jump on Skyblock for the first time.

Here are a few of the changes that were made. Some you will notice, others are quite subtle.

  1. Faction Border

The Factions Server had its border reduced from 45k to 20k (10000 in each direction). We had some bases relocated. This was made easier as people gave the exact right locations, so thanks for that. If you have a Factions base that is outside of that space, it will now be lost. We did give 6 days to apply for a relocation and an extra day to move everything. Also, be careful about your /home locations. We won't be going to retrieve your items if you do die by going to a home outside of the border. If you want us to test it out for you, please ask us and we will attempt to find the location.

  2. Voting Rewards

We have brought back voting rewards in-game. You no longer need to be registered on the website to get rewarded. However, we have left the Coin rewards in so if you are registered, you will still be getting some coins to use. The voting reward is sent in waves, so you may have to wait a few minutes before you get them. Just make sure that you are on the server that you wish to recieve rewards on.

  3. Tablist

The old tablist was really cluttered and not pleasant to look at. This has been changed to contain everyone in one list. To see which server a player is on, there will be a character in brackets right in front of the players name. We have 6 servers, 7 including the hub, so it shouldn't be too hard to work out which is which.

  4. Chat Server Prefix

We have updated the chat server prefixes to align with the tablist.

Bugs and Exploits

Quiet on the bug end.

  1. Chat Delay

This has fixed itself. It is believed to be due to a faulty plugin that was removed.

  2. Random crashes and servers sometimes failing to get back up

We are still looking into why servers are crashing, but they are getting back up fine now so the crashes have been less noticable. If you do notice one go down randomally, raise a ticket so that we can see the time that it went down and investigate.

Mob Arena and Parkour are underway. We don't have an exact time frame for them but we will be getting them sorted as quick as possible. We don't want to miss anything with these servers and we want to keep them professional from day 1.

Watch this space!

I thought I would keep it short and sweet this week. I got to have a bit of fun, which was a nice change. I am still learning Skyblock, but hopefully I'll be able to contend soon enough.

Feel free to hit me up in game, on discord or on the forum if you have any issues or questions.

See you in-game,

The one about Factions...

JohZant Owner posted Feb 19, 18

Another week has gone by, and we are getting more and more excited. We hope that you are too!

Here is the report.

This week we focused on bringing some of the features that have been requested for a while.

  1. Auction House

The Auction House has been added to Factions and Skyblock. This feature will allow people to move away from the economy that is forced in the servers (/shop and /is ms). The Auction House is used by typing in /auc to open up the GUI or /auc start to auction off the item in your hand.

  2. AFK Kicker

Since the new server has opened, we removed the auto afk and then afk kicker. This has now been added back so that players actually have to play to be powerful, rather than just become powerful by having the most clocked up AFK hours.

  3. Factions Tax

This came in last week, with the first lot of taxes being taken on Saturday. This cleared out a few dead factions, but it did bring to our attention that there were an alarming amount of Factions with no claimed land. Since they had no claimed land, they were able to avoid being disband. There has now been a $1000 upkeep added to taxes, just for having a faction. This has cleared out a few more, and the rest should follow soon.

  4. Anticheat

This one is a bit boring, however, after we have had some reports from a few players regarding the Anticheat kicking them for things that they weren't doing, I decided to get some professional help. The system that we are using is the exact same, but how it works has changed a lot. We have already seen an improvement as we have had no complaints thus far. If you do find an issue, please raise a ticket as soon as you come back into the hub, this way we can get a better view of what has happened and why you had been punished.

  5. Plenty of improvements to the server in general...

I don't want to bore anyone with all the other stuff that I had to improve the running of the servers, but there were a few extra things done to help me out in running the servers.

Bugs and Exploits

Every week we have a few bugs reported to us. This week has been spent trying to track down some of the big ones.

  1. Wild TP

We had some issues with people dying in the spot that they landed after using /wild. This has now been resolved and tested. If this happens to you, please raise a ticket immediately.

  2. Vanilla and Mob Spawning

There was a problem with how many mobs could be in a space at once. This has now been fixed since we removed the maximum entity cap. If we experience any sort of issues with resource usage on the server, we will put this back into place.

  3. Chat Delay

This is still being investigated. We have isolated it to an area, but we don't know the exact cause.

  4. Random crashes and servers sometimes failing to get back up

This is believed to be caused by an outdated plugin. The plugin has now been updated to the latest, but we are still monitoring it.

Factions is the server that we started with, but it has lost a bit of popularity since we switched to the network. This has given us a bit of freedom to come up with a game plan with how to bring the fight back to Factions. Here are the changes that we have decided upon.

  1. In less than 24 hours, Lapis Lazuli will no longer be in any enchantment tables. You will be required to supply your own.
  2. In less than 24 hours, experience will be lost upon death.
  3. By the end of next weekend, before Monday the 26th of February, the border will be changed from 45k to 20k.

To have your base location changed, fill out this form --> Relocation Form

You have to be the leader of the Faction to apply. Your claim will not be moved, just the blocks. Be accurate when filling out the form as we will get to you at the end, and if we have time, if there is a mistake.

We are almost ready to get cracking with a new game mode. After a lot of consideration, we have decided that we will be removing KitPVP from the future development list and replace it with a server that is completely dedicated to Mob Arena. The main reason that we have decided on Mob Arena is the fact that we are too spread out across the server at the moment to have a decent KitPVP server. The majority of the community is enjoying more friendly game modes at this stage so we thought that a PVE game mode might be a better use of our resources and time at the moment.

If you have any questions regarding anything in this post, or even a question that you have been thinking about for a while now, talk to us on the server, or send us a private message via Discord.

I am very happy with what we have accomplished during the week, and I am very pumped for what this next week will have in store for us.

See you in-game,

First week down

JohZant Owner posted Feb 12, 18

Good morning, Arch-Fam!

We opened our doors to the network on the 3rd of February, and have been really successful so far. On the old server, we had just over 400 people come through in 2 months. With the new network, we have had 94 people coming through. Granted, this does include all of you regulars, but even if we took that into account, we would be at over 1000 Unique players finding us and giving us a go in no time at all.

This past week, including the weekend, has been great and we got a fair few things done. Here is the report.

What did we add?

  1. Factions came back. We adjusted some things, such as how close to spawn you could claim and we also cleaned up the wreck around spawn. There were a few plugins on that server which helped us act like a network without having the resources. Ironically enough, these things actually take up resources. These have been removed.
  2. Mob Arena added to Factions.
  3. New additions to our Anticheat suite.
  4. Voting and new "Coin" Currency
  5. Faction Tax
  6. Mob Stacking in Factions
  7. Changed the entity clear time from 5 minutes to 1 hour.

What did we remove?

  1. Creative and Parkour was removed from Factions.

Bugs and Issues

Since we have added the ticket system in, we have been able to find and fix bugs more efficiently. This has also allowed us to focus on developing more as tickets can be directed to multiple people rather than just myself all the time.

Bugs Fixed

  1. Issues with villagers and other mobs in Skyblock.
  2. Certain crates not working on the factions server.
  3. Spawner signs in Factions shop not working.

Existing bugs

  1. mcMMO issues with not gaining XP.
  2. Vanilla server crashes and fails to start back up within 5 minutes.

If you have any bugs, please report them. We want to make this a bug free zone!

The new currency

I have talked to a few people about this and made a post. We now not only accept Money in our store, but we also accept "Coins". Coins is a new currency that allows us to give you the ability to purchase perks in-game. According to the EULA, I can't give you any objects that can advantage you in exchange for money. But what they didn't state is that I could make my own currency and allow you to use that!

This new currency is available to everyone, and no players will get extra currency for paying with real money. Coins can, however, be earned and we are continuously looking at ways that you can earn Coins in and out of the game.

Once you have Coins, you can spend them at the shop for in-game items on your favourite server.

Faction Tax

This is a big one that we think will create a bit more of a need for money. At the moment, money is fairly abundant in Factions. For most people, if you were to get raided and lost everything, it would late less than a day to get back up and running again. This is not what we want. We don't want people to have to grind too much, but we also like a challenge.

How it works

Every day, every Faction will get taxed. The amount is calculated by how many chunks you own. At this stage, and this may change in the near future, for every chunk that your faction owns, you will need to pay $250/day. This means that larger factions will have to cough up a lot more than a lot of the smaller factions.

If a faction is unable to pay their tax bill, the faction disbands and their claims are all removed. This will help us clean up all of the dead factions fairly quickly and this will give us a better indication of who the main powers are.

We have a grace period for all factions to put some money in their faction bank. So no factions will be removed until the Friday coming up.

That is all from me this week. We do have a few little projects coming up that we are excited to show to you. Some of them we think you will love, others you probably won't care about as their only purpose is to make my life easier.

If you have any questions, post it in the forums or message us on Discord.

See you in-game,

Hello Network!

JohZant Owner posted Feb 5, 18

Hey Archetypers.... Archetopics.... Archetypians....

Hmm... We'll work that one out at a later date maybe.

I am trying to keep true to my promises to all of you, so here is a little update on where we have gotten to so far. We did it!

We opened our doors to the network 3 days ago with Vanilla, Creative and Skyblock. Skyblock has had most of the love from you guys, with Vanilla following close behind. I think we were all really suprised with how much fun it would be. Personally, I haven't had a good chance to get my hand in there yet, but I hope to have a bit of a go REALLY soon.

One of the big things that we have noticed since we temporarily closed down the Factions server was most of you only really like factions. We knew that you all loved factions as much as us, but we didn't expect to see how much you guys didn't like us without factions. For that, we really are sorry.

Bugs and Issues

With the new server, we upgraded a lot of the plugins, replaced a lot of plugins and got some new plugins. One of these is a much better supported Anti Cheat and another a proper ticketing system. These would be the two main changes to your online experience with Archetype.

On the old server, we had a suggestion plugin where you could suggest anything and our ticketing system really just relied on you telling us about the issues and having to nag us. We tried to point you to the forums where you could report these issues and possibly find someone else that has the same issue so that we could get as much information as possible to fix it. But it turns out that none of you cared that much about the issues being fixed to actually post on the forums, so nothing actually got done about them.

On this new system, we have added in Tickets. Use /ticket to bring up a menu where you can create tickets for lots of different reasons. There is even a suggestion category for us to properly manage you suggestions. One of the major perks about this system is that you can add comments and the staff can comment back to you. This will hopefully open a better dialog between us so that we can communicate more efficiently and fix bugs a lot more quickly.

In saying that, if we direct you to put this on the forum, there will be a reason for it. The ticket system can only achieve so much. We can't get screen shots or examples sent to us through the system. If you are directed to put the issue on the forum, please do so.... do not raise another ticket. Abusing the ticketing system will put us offside.

This new anticheat is going to take a lot of the pressure off of the staff and allow us to work on bringing you better content. We are very excited for it! However, we will have some teething problems, as some of you have seen already.

If you are getting kicked for hacking, exploiting or cheating, and you don't believe that you were doing anything, please raise a ticket. We might ask you to put a post on the forum as we do need as much data as possible to configure the anticheat so that it catches the right people and leaves the majority of this community alone.

When asked to make a forum post, please include what the kick was for and what you were doing before the kick.

Other issues or problems

For anything else, open a ticket. If there is a bug, use the ticketing system. Exploit? Tickiting system. Report a player? Ticketing system. If you ask for help in chat, there is a fair chance that we might be fixing another issue. The Archetype Helpers will help you as best as they can if they are not helping another player, but if they are in the middle of something else, they will ask you to raise a ticket.

We have added two more Helpers to our ranks for the Network.

  • ElderMaxon
  • XAndyRay

We are very excited to have them with us as they have shown a lot of dedication to the Archetype Network and have supported us already!

If you see them online, say g'day and please direct any questions to them that you may have. They may not know the answer, but they will be able to find the answer for you.

Now, I believe that I have been a fairly good admin for you guys. I have seen admins on other servers and I have always wondered why they are never seen on the server, or why they never help out. I have tried to be as open as possible with everyone, and get involved in the game as often as possible. It seems that most of you enjoy this so I will stay with it.

In saying that, you really need to be patient when asking me a question or trying to get my attention. The Archetype has other staff ranks for a reason. This reason is so that senior staff can be freed up to develop the server, fix issues and support the rest of the staff team.

I love talking to all of you, but constantly trying to grab my attention while I am busy (which is all of the time) is not a good way to get answers. Talk to the other staff if you need help urgently. If you have a question that you specifically need to talk to me about, mesage me on Discord or the website. I will get to it when I am able to.

We started off with a factions server. We have a good playerbase. We decided to expand. Most of the playerbase told me that they will come back when Factions is open again. Well, the time is here. Factions is now open to play again.

There were a few changes that were made to the factions server, so we had to redo a lot of the backend. But we hope that most of it has stayed the same. If you find issues, open a ticket using /ticket and we will try and address the issue as soon as possible.

Claiming near spawn

I have removed the ability to claim close to spawn. This is because people were wantin to build massive structures near spawn, and that would deter new players from wanting to be around it. I have thought about this a lot and that decision is final

The area around spawn has also been cleaned up. I rmember going onto servers and I was absolutely in awe of the carnage around spawn. I thought that it would be cool to have something similar on our factions server, but it just became too much of a mess. Because of this, the area around spawn has been regenerated to as close to new as possible. To keep it looking nice, there is a certain amount of blocks around spawn that you can not break, and you can not place blocks onto. Again, this has been thought out and the decision is final.

If you had buildings there, they are now gone. Just assume that they were raided and start building somewhere new.

Thanks for reading my dribble again. I hope that you guys are as excited as I am.

I look forward to seeing you in-game,

suz_cos ManagerMod Very excited for the future of the Archetype!!!! Thanks for all the late nights and getting everything up and running. L...
